  1. haha that's great... I miss the days of the LAN party, although back when I was doing it a lot it took half the day to get the network up and running (which in retrospect was also half the fun!!). Does your wife game as well? I've tried to get mine into different games but without any luck. On the Ivy bridge front I've just been going on what I've read and what others have told me. You're right though.. I shouldn't bet the farm until it's actually released in the wild. Thanks again!!

    my rig.

Seriously that desk rocks!! I'm still using a PS/2 Microsoft "Internet" keyboard.. not sure what Internet has to do with the keyboard but hey..
  3. My brother has the Galaxy and loves it.
  4. Griff and Kilgore - thank you for the great replies that is exactly the info I was looking for. Not sure if I'm going to keep the i7 920 or not.. although as Kilgore said waiting for the ivy bridge to come out is probably my best bet (April 2012?). It seems the socket 1155 route is the way to go long-term. I think perhaps I'm best to maybe overclock my current CPU for the time being and wait for a few months before upgrading. Griff - so you've got an I7 950 PC and two i52500k PCs? I am jealous !yes
  5. I've only ever used Armarzie and Six-updater so not sure if it's better or not... I think Arma launcher is the one Poffadder uses and he raves about it.. so it must be OK
  6. For those that use Six-Updater, there is a great tutorial video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpdZ1obpGRQ
  7. I've been acquiring these parts over the last year or so.. the only things I paid for out of my own pocket were the Antec case and power supply.
  8. OK so it's probably been over 10 years since I've built a real gaming system...give me a rack server to build and I'm your guy but I'm useless when it comes to the best option for a gaming-specific board. Recently I've acquired all the right parts now I just need to make the jump with a new motherboard and RAM (and possibly CPU). So I'm asking for input on what mobo I should look at (let's pretend $$$ is not a limitation). Here's what I have now to work with: Intel i7 920 Bloomfield CPU (never been overclocked) GTX 570 video card (same ^) 1 x WD 300GB SATA 2 drive (junk drive, swap drive) 1 x WD VelociRaptor 300GB 10k rpm SATA 3.0 drive (O/S, apps, etc) 1 x OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SATA 3.0 SSD (Games, HD midget porn) Antec TruePower Quattro TPQ-1000 1000W Antec Nine Hundred Two v3 case Some low-end Asus workstation board I can't even remember the model What I'd like on a new board: SATA 3.0 with more than 2 god-damn channels on the board!! Minimum 4 RAM slots preferably 6 Ability to have a 2nd video card in SLI e-SATA option At LEAST 4 USB on the back Onboard sound I've always been a fan of Asus boards (only one bad board in probably 500+ workstations) but not sure if they are the best when it comes to gaming. I'll also need new RAM so any help there would be great. Any thoughts or suggestions?
  9. Great!!! I'm sure there can be improvements in the doc so let me know if something is unclear. I didn't get into the more complicated setups with Armarize however you can create profiles and save them (ie: profile for Clafghan server, another one for an ACE server, etc) To answer your question yes you start it before running Arma - in fact you use it to run Arma after selecting your mods (back to main screen, Server Browser, Start button in bottom right)
  10. and more cousins Looks like someone attempted to make a streaming Arma music player http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltikvu2ge-g
  11. *wonders if there is a way to stream audio into vehicles in Arma*
  12. If you dump all your pbo's into your main Addons folder you will have problems joining public servers that do addon checks. If you don't like fiddling with files and folders use a mod launcher for Arma: http://www.veterans-gaming.com/vg-plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?20926.last
  13. Not sure of any free PDF writers.. if you use Word 2007 you can install the Save as PDF addon. You create the doc in Word and 'save as' a PDF file. http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=7 I have a copy of Adobe Acrobat so I use that but it's big $$$ to buy.
  14. See this post Option #2. http://www.armaholic.com/plug.php?e=faq&q=18 Basically you create a separate folder for each mod in the root of your Arma 2 install folder (or Operation Arrowhead folder if you have that). The common way is to put an @ sign at the beginning of each folder. So if you were installing the Clafghan map you would create a folder called @Clafghan in your Arma 2 install folder, create another folder inside @Clafghan called Addons, then copy the .pbo files from the map download to the addons folder. If you are going to be using mods/maps a lot I highly recommend using a mod launcher for Arma: http://www.veterans-gaming.com/vg-plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?20926.last
  15. See the attached PDF file for these instructions WITH PRETTY PICTURES!! Armarize is a launcher for Arma 2 that allows you to easily select which mods you want to run as well as managing mod updates or ?synchronization?. http://www.armarize.com/downloads.php Steps: 1 - Install and launch Armarize 2 - Click on Configuration 3 - First tab - Modifications This is where you can select any mod available to download (synchronize). Check the mods you want and click on Synchronize at the bottom - this will download and install the selected mods or update the mod to the latest version if you already have it installed. Mods that show up red are ones you have already installed but are not prepped for updates through Armarize ? click on Repair to fix this. 4 - Second tab - Profiles Select your Arma 2 profile from the drop down box. Below this you can set startup parameters ? first three are to speed up loading the game - nosplash - skipIntro - world=empty -showScriptErrors - if you are testing a mission this will show errors in-game On the right hand side is where you configure which mods you wish to use. Both lists show only the mods that are installed on your system. - Modifications to load when the game will be started Select which mods you wish to launch (if there are none in the list it means you haven't installed any) - Modifications to update during the next synchronization Select which of your mods you would like to update on the next synchronization 5 - Third tab - Settings Check the box "Run game as administrator" If you have a Steam version, check the box "Try to use Steam to start the game" That's All Folks!! Once you have Armarize configured and the mods you want to load are checked, go back to the Main Menu, click on Serverbrowser, and click Start to launch the game. You can also browse the list of available Arma servers and join a game from there. Please if you have any comments or suggestions to add to this doc please post it hear and I will update it!! launching_mods_with_armarize.rar
  16. Perhaps those maps are near the bottom of the rotation? If so then they probably don't get played much as the server will crash before getting to them and start back on Muttrah City.
  17. Ah yes the PR mod for Arma .. I really need to give it another chance.. tried it when it was released and the problems with Arma 1.59 and netcode made it unplayable however with 1.60 it should be much better. You should try out the Clafghan map/mission made by SemlerPDX that is running on our 2nd Arma server.... if you like the PR mod you will love this. Let one of us know if you need help installing and configuring mods/maps.
  18. Wow thanks Davestrike... I'm working on a doc for the Armarize launcher Edit: made this a sticky
  19. I can do one for Armarize I am quite familiar with it... Poff uses a different one can't remember it's name.
  20. To run as Combined Ops with Steam you need to run each game separately through Steam at least once, then go back into your Steam Library, right-click on Arma Operation Arrowhead and select Run as Combined Operations (or something to that effect). You will have to this each time you launch Arma.. or download a mod manager like Armarize or Six Updater which handles this for you (and much more).
  21. http://www.theverge.com/2011/12/22/2648219/stop-online-piracy-act-sopa-what-is-it It's scary is what it is "SOPA and PIPA are the effective equivalent of blowing up every road, bridge, and tunnel in New York to keep people from getting to one DVD bootleg stand in Union Square ? but leaving the stand itself alone." "Because US copyright holders generally can't drag a foreign web site into US courts to get them to stop stealing and distributing their work, SOPA allows them to go after the ISPs, ad networks, and payment processors that are in the United States. It is a law borne of the blind logic of revenge: the movie studios can't punish the real pirates, so they are attacking the network instead." The best part is their solution is to 'poison' or change the DNS entries for websites that are 'infringing'. Cute.. but anyone with any IT knowledge knows that the DNS name is just a friendly way of punching in an IP address to access the website. So for example if VG gets tagged as an infringing website and it's DNS entries are removed or re-directed one can simply enter the IP address to access the website. VG's IP is: 184.173.1.201 If you copy/paste that into your browser it will take you to the VG website. YOU ARE NOW CONSIDERED A HACKER AND A COMMUNIST ANTI-PATRIOTIC CRIMINAL!!!
  22. Yeah unfortunately Canada will probably follow suit if the law passes.. or pass some equally BS law shortly after...
  23. They can't possibly pass this bill can they? How are they going to enforce it outside of US borders?
